Utrecht to hire new coach

Last updated 2 years ago by Jon Wilkins

According to AD and other sources, John van den Brom will leave AZ Alkmaar at the end of the season and is the main candidate to replace Dick Advocaat at Utrecht.

Van den Brom has been in charge of AZ since 2014, making him the longest serving coach in the Eredivisie. However, things are going stale at the AFAS Stadion and the 52-year-old will reportedly step down from his position at the end of the season to take over from Dick Advocaat at Utrecht.

Both AD and Voetbal International are reporting that Van den Brom is now set to take over at Utrecht after holding talks with owner Frans van Seumeren.

Dick Advocaat is currently head coach of Utrecht and has overseen a great run of form which has seen the club climb to fourth. However, he has made it clear that he is only staying until the end of this campaign.

Neither AZ or Utrecht have confirmed any of this news yet.

According to Voetbal International, Amersfoorter John van den Brom. has already spoken with Frans van Seumeren, the owner of FC Utrecht.

When it comes around, according to VI Van den Brom signs a two-year commitment with an option for another season.

The Amersfoorter is in his fifth season at AZ and has let the club know after this season he intends to leave. Van den Brom won European football in Alkmaar three times and twice taken them to the cup final, but this season has been a bit disappointing.

John van den Brom played in his hometown with the amateurs of APWC and AFC Quick 1890 before he switched to Vitesse as a 20-year old. He played over 300 matches for the Arnhem club. He also played for Ajax and Istanbulspor and De Graafschap. He played two international matches.

His coaching career started with the amateurs of Bennekom. Then through the youth teams of Ajax, AGOVV, ADO Den Haag and Vitesse, until he ended up in 2012 at the Belgian club Anderlecht. In 2014 he became head coach of AZ Alkmaar.
