Utrecht take note as Houten Handball Hit the Heights

Last updated 2 years ago by Jon Wilkins

Great news this weekend as Houten knocked out the cup holders Bevo HC from Limburg 32-29 and march on into the Cup quarterfinals.

Houten were impressive for the whole game. They had more creative players such as Thies Berendsen and Jarn van Gool and they could hardly be stopped by Bevo.

Also Houten goalkeeper Rens van Kregten made a number of big stops on behalf of the leader of the premier league in the bag.

After the break, where Houten led 18-13, Bevo got right back into the game through several break-aways. The score was narrowed to only 29-28 in the final phase. In the final minute, Berendsen, with a daring spin move won the game for Houten.

We have to enjoy this and hope that we are lucky with the draw.

Said Houten Trainer Rick Louw

The win was a real achievement, because Houten plays in a league lower than Bevo, who are fifth in the BeNe League. Houten as we know are the leaders of the Eredivisie. If they wins all their remaining league matches, promotion to the BeNe League will be guaranteed and on this showing, Houten will be able to hold their own. With this victory, Houten added strength to their ambitions.

This weekend Houten meet the Aristos from Amsterdam in a game they should win easily to consolidate their position as league leaders.
