Utrecht were able to hold off NEC Nijmegen with a 2-2 draw at the Goffertstadion in another battle to stay out of the bottom of the Eredivisie league.
The home side dominated the greater deal of the first half but were on the losing end 22 minutes later after a header by Dave Bulthuis off Tommy Oar’s free kick. It was just moments later before the unexpected equalizer came from Michael Higdon’s header after a long range free kick.
Steve de Ridder managed to work the ball into the bottom corner of the NEC net just before the half time whistle after a low cross from Jens Toornstra. An hour into the game, Jakob Jantscher was able to fire one in after a cutback pass from Cristoph Hemlein to draw the game at 2-2.
NEC upped the pressure for the rest of the second half in an attempt to prevent the draw but the away side with four men at the back were strong enough to deny NEC the chance to succeed.
FC Utrecht’s hard work has paid off going up one place to 14th position in the Eredivisie while this result keeps NEC stationary at spot 17; one place from the bottom of the table.
