Toots & The Maytals in Utrecht

Last updated 2 years ago by UtrechtCentral.com

Fantastic news for all lovers of reggae, legendary band Toots & The Maytals will be performing at Tivoli Vredenburg, on Wednesday 12 September!

The legendary Jamaican reggae band Toots & The Maytals has been playing music and touring for 56 years, but still sound as fresh as ever. 75-year-old front man Frederick Nathaniel “Toots” Hibbert, blessed with a unique and soulful voice still leads the band with relish. Their love for rock steady, which originated in the 1960s, brought the band together. Their inspiration comes from The Impressions and The Temptations which they combined with true Jamaican soul to create their own genre, the one and only Kingston Soul

Their mix of ska, rock steady and reggae is displayed on many of their essential albums over the years: Funky Kingston, Monkey Man, Pressure Drop, 54-46 Was My Number and Do The Raggay, which was the first record in history to use the word Raggay or as we know it Reggae. You can expect a typical funky, sweaty, boisterous, musical Kingston party!
