Seven arrested across Utrecht in Gangland Raids

Last updated 2 years ago by Jon Wilkins

Seven people have been arrested in co-ordinated police raids across Utrecht and its surrounding towns this morning. This is part of a major investigation into organised crime in Utrecht.

Eight homes were targeted and searched in Utrecht, Nieuwegein, Tiel and Vianen and the word is that the raids were connected to the ‘mocro mafia’, the nickname given to largely Dutch-Moroccan drugs gangs which have been linked to several murders.

In particular, police had wanted to arrest Ridouan Taghi, who is alleged to have ordered several killings, and who is on the nations most-wanted list. Unfortunately he was not arrested today nor was his right-hand man Saïd Razzouki.

The Utrecht Police Twitter feed @PolitieUtrecht confirmed the operation at 2.57 today:

“Driebergen – Seven men arrested in police investigation: The police arrested seven men this morning and conducted eight house searches in an ongoing police investigation. The searches were held in Nieuwegein, Utrecht, Vianen and Tiel.”

Whilst www.politie.nl added:

“The seven men, aged 25 to 46, were arrested by the arrest team and detained for questioning. By the end of the morning, the searches had been completed at the homes.”
