[gard align=”right”]Over the past two years, 85 prostitutes have been busted in Utrecht. Since the closing of the brothels in 2013, all forms of prostitution in Utrecht became illegal. The city hoped to reduce illegal activity in the sex business by doing so, but the plan seems to have failed. Only in 2015, the police found eight illegal “sex-institutions.”
The city council is, however, mildly optimistic about the facts: “Out of the 85 girls we found, only 6 were also working at the Zandpad brothel in 2013. That means that we have been able to help the majority out of illegal prostitution.”
The city will go into deliberation before making decisions about the future. Chances are slim that the brothels in Utrecht will be reopened soon.
