A Bulgarian in Utrecht

Last updated 2 years ago by Michael Darmanin

Plamen moves to Utrecht tomorrow and is from the city of Stara Zagora, in Bulgaria. He is 40 years old,  born and raised  in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Plamen is a Widower as sadly his wife recently died from cancer. He is father of a young  daughter . He leaves a mother, father and sister living in Bulgaria. He has a college degree in Economics.  Plamen likes music, good vibes, adventures, history and philosophy. He is choosing the right place in Utrecht to turn a new page in his life in what he calls the beautiful Netherlands.

What brings you to Utrecht?

A friend of mine is working at Utrecht and because I like Netherlands and its people, I decided to restart his life here. He doesn’t have any worries about moving to Utrecht because he has already been living in the Netherlands for over a year whilst following a trainee programme in Breda so the Netherlands are familiar to him.

What do you expect Utrecht to be like?

Well… I think it will be how I saw the other parts of your country; windmills, canals, architecture, with friendly and positive people.

Is there anywhere special in Utrecht that you are looking forward to seeing?

I’m so excited  to see everything in Utrecht, the markets, the buildings, the historical places etc.

Do you think there is a Dutch way of life and will you fit in to the Dutch way of life?

Definitely! Yes! As I wrote I saw how Dutch people live in Breda. Also I saw how many other foreigners are living happily  in the Netherlands,  Polish, Greeks, Latvians… So yes! I think can fit in.

Have you already made contact with any fellow countrymen in Utrecht?

No! Not yet but maybe I will meet my countrymen soon.

Have you found somewhere to live? Was this easy or difficult?

Yes! I found where to live. It was not so difficult because the job agency that hired me provide all the basic things for a new beginning.

I think one thing that Plamen needs to do is to find a bike as he admits:

I admit I’m not riding a bike but if I have good reason I will.

Will you be staying in the Netherlands?

If everything goes well I have a plans to stay in your amazing country for a long , long period.

So it’s welcome to Plamen our first Bulgarian in Utrecht! We hope you settle in quickly and have a wonderful stay. Good luck with your new job!
