Olympic rower Martha Laurijsen was born

In Utrecht this week in 1954 Olympic Bronze Medallist Martha Laurijsen was born.

She won the silver medal in the double sculls at the 1984 Summer Olympics, partnering with her elder sister Greet.

Marty, as she was known, went on to cox the women’s eight at the same Olympics, an amazing achievement and unprecedented in the history of Olympic rowing for Men or women!
