[gard align=”right”]On May 30th, a world record was broken at Galgenwaard Stadium in the city of Utrecht. 850 tall people came together, completely exceeding the previous world record. The previous world record of 136 people was achieved in Australia in 2009.
The minimum height for the attempt was set at 1.90 m (6 ft 2) for men and 1.80 m (5 ft 9) for women. In order to break the previous record, this group of people had to stay together in the stadium for 5 minutes.
Guinness Book of Records will announce in a few weeks if the attempt is officially approved.
The world record attempt was organized by the Klub Lange Mensen (Society of Tall People). This society’s aim is to speak out for the interests of tall people. Partly due to their efforts, the standard norm for the height of doors has been raised. The Netherlands has on average the tallest population in the world.
