The amount of energy that homes and businesses generated through solar panels increased greatly last year compared to 2017.

While homes attributed for a 37 percent increase in solar power generation, that figure stands at a whopping 71 percent for businesses according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The growth is the result of the installation of solar parks nationwide. Last year, a total of 65 solar parks in the Netherlands were registered compared to 22 in 2017.

In homes, solar panels were installed with a total potential energy generating capacity of 2,300 megawatts; a year earlier, that figure stood at 1,680 megawatts. Residents of Utrecht, Amsterdam and Almere were responsible for the growth where solar panels were installed on either new or existing properties.

The report further states that at least 95 percent of the total amount of installed solar panels was based on official registrations by businesses and homes in The Netherlands. The information was provided by the Dutch certification authority Certiq and the tax deduction scheme provided by the Tax Authorities.
