Van Persie heads Feyenoord to victory

Last updated by

Today saw a disappointing result for FC Utrecht as Feyenoord won after Robin van Persie scored with just three minutes left before time. The game saw the Domstedelingen led by coach Dick Advocaat for the first time.

Advocaat would not have been surprised by the scorer as he coached him in Turkey. He told the after match press conference that Van Persie was a phenomenon as he knew him from when he played at Fenerbache. He told the press that if he got that kind of chance, then you knew he was going to score.

This leaves FC Utrecht with only five points in the Eredivisie and they are now only two points ahead of last place side, NAC Breda.

Dick Advocaat has made it clear after the defeat that some FC Utrecht players have to improve.

He did feel that they had got better after the half time break and had several chances for a goal, but that his team had to take these chances. He thinks they need to speed up their passing as it took too long to play the final ball.

Advocaat thought that every one of his players had tried hard, but some had not been in top form. He has warned them that some will have to perform better, but wouldn’t name names.

On Thursday, FC Utrecht will play against MVV in the first round of the KNVB Cup on what will be the the 71st birthday of Advocaat. Let’s hope there are happy returns all round!
