Utrecht is extremely happy to play host to the start of the ever popular Tour de France in 2015. Members of the Utrecht town hall expressed the benefits of such an event on the economy, culture and tourism for the central Dutch city.
It was expected that Utrecht would lead the start of the race after a public survey was carried out by a group of interested entrepreneurs in late August of 2012. We also found out then that Utrecht had been trying to play host for a couple of years.
This is not the first time the Tour de France will start off in the Netherlands having held the kickoff six times in the past. Amsterdam was the first Dutch city where the event commenced in 1954.
The Dutch are thrilled to play host once again being a country where cycling is one the main methods of transport for business sport and pleasure. Details of the start on 28 November.
