This after being part of the team that won gold in the World Hockey Championship last month. Netherlands were crowned winners for a record eighth time after a crushing 6-0 victory ended Ireland’s fairytale tournament.

Koning and Pheninckx were honoured today at the municipal office, where mayor Jan van Zanen and Sports Alderman Maarten van Ooijen handed them the medal.

Earlier, Laurien Leurink, above, also received the Sportpenning, after being part of the squad that won the World Indoor Hockey Championships against Germany three years ago in Leipzig. She also participated this year in the World Hockey Championship which was held in London.
