Orange women at De Galgenwaard?

Last updated by

The Orange Lionesses gained their play off place last Tuesday when they beat Denmark 2-1. Now the Netherlands will play Switzerland between November 5 and 13 in two matches for the last qualifying place for next year’s World Cup in France.

In the Orange squad, there are our two regional players Shanice van der Sanden from IJsselstein and the Nieuwegeinse keeper Sari van Veenendaal.

Stadion Galgenwaard seats over 23,000 spectators. The previous qualifying match played by The Netherlands against Denmark last week was played in Breda. For that game, all 19,000 tickets were sold out within 50 minutes.

This will not be the first time that an international match between the Dutch women has been played at the Galgenwaarn.  In April 2017, the Netherlands played a friendly match against France.

Later that summer, the home of FC Utrecht was also the setting for the opening of the European Championships for women between the Netherlands and Norway.
