Advocaat looking forward to first game

Dick Advocaat, the FC Utrecht Coach is looking forward to another challenge in his long coaching career. This weekend it is against Feyenoord, a team that Advocaat thinks allows opposition teams to play good football.

Advocaat looks ahead to his first duel for the Domstedelingen.

And at his Monday news conference he recognised that the first week would always be difficult. The newly appointed head coach knows that the game against Feyenoord will not be an easy match, but they have to play it anyway. He thinks that Feyenoord are a very annoying team, but that it is also a team that you can play positive football against as they don’t try to stop the opposition from playing.

Historically playing Feyenoord has not worked out well. An interesting fact is that the match against Feyenoord in1970, was the very first game that FC Utrecht played after the club was formed. Unfortunately, it ended 4-1 in favour of the Rotterdammers.

This meeting will be the 97th between the teams. Feyenoord have won 53 times, 28 were drawn and in only 15 games have FC Utrecht won.

It is rather discouraging to note that of the last 23 Eredivisie games, between the sides that the team from the Domstad have won just once.

But let us remember with tears in our eyes, the season 1999/2000 when FC Utrecht won at the De Kuip 2-1 thanks to a winning goal from the one and only Dirk Kuyt. If only he was playing for us now!
