Utrecht’s tribute to dance maestro Avicii went viral after a bell tribute to the Swedish DJ who died  in Muscat, Oman at the age of 28, has been broadcast around the world. Utrechts carillonneur Malgosia Fiebig decided to play some of his most famous work at the weekend, and fans of the DJ were delighted to hear such numbers such as Wake Me Up, Without You and Hey Brother sounding out from the medieval Dom tower. News agencies as diverse as CNN, the BBC and Swedish television were among the many broadcasters who showed the impromptu performance. Fiebig has been overwhelmed by the reaction to the tribute, particularly because it put the spotlight on carillon-playing.

This was a beautiful tribute to Avicii, just as we have had wonderful bell ringing tributes to other artists in the past. but was it the highlight of 2018 for you in Utrecht?
