Utrecht’s plastic whale to stay a while longer

Last updated by

The statue of a plastic whale, to be seen at Catherijnesingel near Utrecht Central Station will stay a while longer in the city. It was originally scheduled to be moved to Paris in the summer, but now will stay until September.

The art piece is called Skyscraper, and is designed by American architecture and design firm STUDIOKCA. It is 4 stories tall and made out of blue and white plastic waste from the Pacific Ocean. It is a response to the 150 million tons of waste currently in the ocean.

The art piece was originally created for the 2018 Brugge Triennale, a free art festival. It came to Utrecht in January at the initiative of Utrecht University. It will be moved to Asia in September.
