Utrecht, take part in the Blind Walk

Last updated by

This may seem a long way off, but it gives you time to plan your response and make this enterprise a successful one. Why not join this innovative scheme to raise money and awareness of the cause?

On Friday, June 21, the very first Blind Walk that Utrecht has ever seen takes place.

Hundreds of duos will walk with eye patches at sunset to collect as much money as possible for eye examinations.

Participants will be able to follow the five-kilometer-long Braille Trail and walk underneath the Dom Tower, past the Utrecht wharf cellars and along the canals. The blindfolded walk is part of the annual Blind event for 1 Day.

More than 90 percent of all Dutch people experience unnecessarily eye problems in their life. From eye problems such as dry eyes to serious eye diseases such as glaucoma or macular degeneration. But despite the known problems, promising research often remains out of the question and there is still no good treatment for many eye diseases. Cause? Lack of money.

The organisers of this event want this to change!

During the Blind Walk, together with one of your best friends, your mother or your favorite colleague, you will be placed in the role of a blind person and will walk with your buddy to experience what it is like to have no vision, but importantly you will have the opportunity to raise as much money as possible for eye examination. You will be able to experience the Utrecht city centre like never before and experience what it’s like to have to rely blindly on someone else. The duos change roles halfway through. Who can you blindly trust?

The Eye Fund and substantive partner Koninklijke Visio call on everyone to go on Friday 21 June, the longest day of the year, Blind for 1 day. Experience with a simulation glasses how it is to be visually impaired or blind. Together we create understanding for people with a visual impairment and we raise money for essential eye examinations!
