Tolerable weather conditions for traditional New Years Dive

Last updated by

Mild winter conditions provided optimal temperatures this year for the traditional ‘Nieuwjaarsduik’ (New Years Dive); an event which involves plunging into publicly accessible waters.  Inhabitants of some dozen regions took part immersing themselves in median temperatures of 8 degrees Celsius.

Last year was surprisingly warmer when temperatures were measured to be 12 °C. The coldest New Years Dive in the last two decades was recorded in 1997 when temperatures reached -10 °C.
