Spanish manufacturer, CAF, will be delivering 27 trams for the new Uithof line to be completed by 2018 according to a new announcement from the initiators, Bestuur Regio Utrecht (BRU), on Monday.
CAF is commissioned to create 27 low-floor trams; each approximately 32 meters long. The first batch delivery is expected to take place around January 2017.
It is expected that the average journey from Utrecht Central Station to De Uithof will take about seventeen minutes. The line will save a lot of time travelling compared to the current bus service.
Also, it was announced that the Royal BAM Group will be putting together the tram infrastructure. This includes the tram rails, overhead lines and stops. A total of nine stops will be placed along the nine kilometer line.
The actual construction of the tramway is expected to start around the turn of the new year 2016. Once the first trams in early 2017 have been delivered, initial testing and training of personnel will commence.
The Uithof Line is expected to become open to the public by mid-2018. The construction of the Uithof line is expected to cost around 440 million Euro.
