Sinter Klaas has arrived!

Last updated by

Sinterklaas was spotted during midday at the Amsterdamsestraatweg yesterday with his black workers (zwaarte Pieten) handing out pepernoten (mini cinnamon biscuits) to the children.

Sinterklaas is the Dutch variant of the more popular Santa Claus. He is believed to reside in Spain and comes down specially to Holland  in early December just on time to hand out presents to children on December 5.

Sinterklaas is in fact a figure based on the good holy man Saint Nikolaas who still traditionally appears in the Netherlands and Belgium as well as the former Dutch colonies namely South Africa, Aruba, Suriname, Curaçao, Bonaire, and Indonesia.
