Shopping center ‘De Planeet’ to be rebuilt into modern structure

Last updated 6 years ago by UtrechtCentral.com

Shopping center, ‘De Planeet’, situated in Utrecht’s city center, is to undergo major refurbishment. Renovations are expected to begin in early 2016 as far as Mark van Ginkel of the Emmes Group is concerned.

Mark van Ginkel is involved with the preparations of the new shopping center. The permit to begin work has been requested.

The reason for the refurbishment is to optimally utilize existing space in the building and to rebuild the structure in a more sustainable way.

[gard align=”right”]De Planeet, first built in the thirties, was home to ‘Galeries Modernes’; a shopping center suitable for that time. After a major fire broke out, the building was rebuilt from the inside out however little thought was given to the construction methods and appearance.

De Planeet currently plays hosts to many brands including Albert Heijn, G-sus, Blokker, Action Sports and Kruidvat. The top five floors are rented out to the Utrecht College of Arts who have a lease contract up until 2017.
