Last updated 4 weeks ago by Michael Darmanin
Autumn is just around the corner. For most of us this means more rain and thicker clothes, but for students and professors this means that the new academic year begins.
Special program at Utrecht University
The prestigious Utrecht University will welcome its students differently this year. The events from the 31st of August which will mark the opening of the 2020-2021 academic year are adapted to the COVID-19 situation. A mix of physical and virtual ceremonies will take place, among which are the Teacher Award Ceremony, Student Awards, and the Honorary Doctorates Ceremony. Some of the events are streamed live.
Lecture by one of the ‘world’s 50 greatest leaders’
Feike Sijbesma will be the guest of the opening’s last event. With an impressive CV, the CEO of the chemical company DSM, was named by Forbes as one of the ‘world’s greatest 50 leaders.’ As a Utrecht University alumnus and special envoy in the Dutch cabinet in the fight against corona, he will hold a talk entitled ‘The big reset,’ in which he will discuss how a post-corona world is likely to look like, and the roles that the businesses and academic communities will play in it.
Education with a mission
Utrecht University seems dedicated to being active and close to society in these trying times. Their various promotional materials suggest a strong commitment to aiding the population in adapting to the new pandemic-world. Specialists from multiple fields provide unique insights into the mechanisms which can be leveraged in the fight against the virus. The next generation of graduates might be better equipped and oriented towards the new and uncertain world ahead of us.
