Founder of popular Italian snack house ‘Broodje Mario’ enters second realm

Last updated by

The founder of the popular Italian snack bar, ‘Broodje Mario’, was confronted with his final day in existence on Saturday at the fine age of 73 years old.

Mario Nostri arrived to the Netherlands in 1971 to play as drummer for a band set up at the time, ‘I Nuovi Cardinali’. His success with the band continued for another four years whereafter he decided to permanently set up residence in the Dutch township.

His venture led him to the inauguration of his own business, ‘Broodje Mario’ – also to become the name of his well renowned sandwich – with two types of salami, cheese, sour vegetable relish and two marinated and mildly spicy green peppers. His success grew which led him to open a number of other Italian restaurant concepts and other snack bars, among them ‘Il Pozzo’ situated on the Oudegracht.

Nostri will most likely find his final resting place at his hometown in Fondi, Lazio.
