Disruption as Oudegracht to be closed in October

Last updated 2 years ago by Michael Darmanin

As plans arrive to pave part of the Oudegracht more disruption will fall upon Utrechters as it will be partially closed from 8 October till 19 October.

Construction will start between the Vollersbrug and the Geertebrug, because of this work you will not be able to drive your car here between 7 am and 4 pm.

You will also need to find another parking space in an already congested city as you will not be allowed to park here whilst the work is being carried out.

I think that as the majority of travellers don’t use cars in the city, that they will be least affected. Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to walk along here, but it means that cyclists will have to dismount. You will need therefore to allow extra time for your journeys. Normal traffic plans will be resumed in the evenings after 4pm and at the weekend the Oudegracht will again be open to all.

Will this ever end? There is always somewhere in the city where building takes over our everyday lives and stops us from going about our normal daily business.

The promise of a better Utrecht in the future is somewhat shallow as we have to make new arrangements as our lifestyles are altered by construction, dust and chaos!

Is all this worth it? What do you think?

Is too much happening at the wrong time?

Is there a good time to be doing building work when it could affect Utrechters less?
