De Helling first bar in Netherlands to ban smoking completely

Last updated by

Local venue De Helling in Utrecht has banned smoking completely. According to the bar, it is the first venue in the Netherlands to do this.

A spokesperson for De Helling said that they had wanted to organize the design of the bar for some time and that because of their designated smoking area they were short on space.

Nationally a total ban on smoking in hospitality establishments is imminent, so this seemed the best thing for De Helling to do now so they can develop their venue further.

The current smoking area will be turned into a second stage. Of course, anyone who still wants to smoke will be able to go outside to do so.

De Hellings Frank Brouwer said that they were not taking a lead to ensure that all pop venues go smoke-free, but they can always hope to inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

What do you think of this new policy?

Will it stop you going to the Bar or will a smoke free zone be more attractive?

Do let us know what you are thinking.
