Utrecht would like to see at least 10,000 electric cars in operation within the province by the year 2020. The statement is part of a greater plan to become an energy efficient and climate neutral city by 2030.

The municipality is already encouraging people to share their electrical vehicles in an effort to decrease the amount of cars on the road. Wholesale deliveries to shops are expected to be done purely through electrical means within ten years time.

Alderman Van Hooijdonk is striving to achieve the highest number of electric vehicles per inhabitant in the Netherlands. She sees Utrecht playing a pivotal role towards the ongoing development of electric transportation in the country.
