UMC Utrecht begin building sophisticated x-ray

The UMC Utrecht have begun constructing a new kind of sophisticated x-ray machine. The initiative is supported by Elekta and Royal Philips and uses MRI technology and is an important step forward in the quest to improve cancer treatment.

The new x-ray machine is able to retrieve very precise live images of internal organs and other organic tissues such as tumors. This allows doctors and surgeons to optimally adjust the radiation during the operation itself and that means less side effects for the patient.

It will take a few months before all the parts of the new machine are installed to create the new machine. A series of tests will be carried out before the machine will be deemed safe to use.
