Hogeschool Utrecht develops ‘battery tree’

Last updated by

The Hogeschool Utrecht, in cooperation with energy company ‘Enexis’ have developed a so-called ‘battery tree’ (accuboom in Dutch), designed to serve as a loading point for electrical scooters and bicycles.

The contraptions feature three leafless tree look-alikes of various sizes and contain batteries from modern day electric cars to store the sun’s energy. According to the project leader Erlijn Eweg, the invention is one of the most unique of its kind in the Netherlands, if not the world.

The new devices can be found at the Oudenoord 700.
