Utrechter executed by firing squad in Indonesia for producing ecstasy

Last updated by

An Utrechter of indonesian origin has been tragically executed by firing squad early morning Sunday as per his sentence for being an accomplice to an ecstasy production facility in his home country.

Ang Kiem Soei, who was 62 years of age at the time of his execution, was caught and prosecuted for his acts back in 2003.

Dutch efforts to thwart his turn on death row have been in vain. Personal phone calls from the Dutch King Jan-Willem Alexander were handled with ignorance.

It is “tragic and very disappointing” that efforts by the Dutch to convince Indonesia to cancel the state execution “have not led to a positive result,” said Foreign Minister Bert Koenders in a statement.

Soei, who was born in the Indonesian district of Papua, received the Dutch nationality while residing in Utrecht; his family are traumatized by the incident.
