More no-smoking zones as far as Groenlinks is concerned

GroenLinks Utrecht has put a proposal forward to include more public no-smoking zones in Utrecht as part of a campaign to create a ‘smoke-free generation’. The proposal has been forwarded to the members of the Utrecht city council.

The proposal questions whether the council is prepared to honour the initiative; Groenlinks would like to have smoke-free zones around schools, playgrounds and sports clubs. Children and athletes have the right to develop in a healthy, smoke-free environment as far as the party is concerned.

Other cities are already following suit for the inclusion of no-smoking zones; the city councils of Rotterdam, Twente and Groningen have already approved measures that prohibit smoking in a number of streets.

How do you feel about the proposal? Are Groenlinks doing the right thing?
