The American presidential election is in less than 100 days, so the time is running out to request an absentee ballot if you are living in Utrecht.

In order to cast your vote, it may be wise to request your absentee ballot earlier than would be necessary while actually living in the United States.

Registering and requesting a ballot

Registering to vote and requesting your absentee ballot can be done online. One resource is through the Federal Voting Assistance Program.

Who can vote?

Different states have different regulations for mail-in voting, some changing in the current circumstances with coronavirus. Voting rights are extended (but not limited to) military members and families stationed outside of their voting residence, and U.S. citizens living overseas. If you are a U.S. citizen but were born overseas and have never resided in the United States, voting privileges vary among different states. You can check if this is a possibility based on the state where your parent/legal guardian last resided here.

Early Voting

You may want to look at early voting as an option in order to factor in the increasing shipping time from Utrecht to the United States. You can check when early voting begins in your state on the National Conference of State Legislatures website.
