Help support devastated Sulawesi Province

Last updated by

Far away from the comfort of our homes in Utrecht, disaster has struck Central Sulawesi province in Indonesia.

Over 1,200 people are now known to have lost their lives after a powerful earthquake ruptured the land and a murderous tsunami swept in from the sea causing ruined homes, collapsed bridges and flooding.

The powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit the island on Friday and this triggered gigantic tsunami waves of up to six metres high that destroyed everything in its path after reaching the shore.

The number of casualties may still increase as many people are feared to be trapped under the rubble, while rescue work is hampered by the difficulty of access due to destroyed roads.

We at UtrechtCentral will be sending a donation to help support relief work and we urge you to do the same. The Dutch Red cross has set up as payment method at Rode Kruis NL83INGB0000006868.

Anything you can give to support the reconstruction of the devastated island will help. Its easy to forget as we sit in our warm dry homes that a moments brush of nature can bring death and destruction to so many.
