Last updated 2 years ago by Jon Wilkins

Utrecht Bigband was the big winner of the eighth edition of the Netherlands Big Band Festival held at the Cube in Lelystad.

The Utrecht Bigband won both the first prize for the best band as well as the soloist prize for their alto saxophonist Simon de Zwaan.

Six big bands from all corners of the Netherlands competed for the honour and the prizes in the theatre at the Cube.

As well as the Utrecht Bigband and The Q-Buskers, the flagship band from the Cube, the following bands performed: Weathertown Bigband from Bilt, Bigband Heerde, Bigband Straight Ahead from Lochem and Bigband Nieuwe Veste from Breda.

The bands were judged by the same expert jury who have judged the band competitions in recent years:  Loet van der Lee, Sebastian Ohm and Erik van Lier.
