Number of bankruptcies in Utrecht dropped by 33 percent

The number of bankruptcies in Utrecht during the first quarter declined by 33 percent compared to Q1 2013; a total of 29 companies declared bankruptcy. In the same period last year 43 Utrecht companies went bankrupt, according to figures from faillissementsdossier.nl.Utrecht is doing better than the national average, with a state decrease of 23 percent. In the province of Zeeland there were the most bankruptcies with 59 percent.
The hospitality industry has been most affected by the ailing economy due to sluggish growth and low purchasing power of consumers. Many consumers see visiting cafes and bars as a luxury so when people have less money to spend, that’s one of the first things they refrain from doing.
