Former red light district Hardebollenstraat gets new owner

Last updated by

A new owner has been arranged for property at the Hardebollenstraat; the former red light district for Utrecht. Caron Real Estate & Development has purchased the buildings formerly owned by the Utrecht Municipality.

Caron Real Estate has been developing homes and commercial properties in Utrecht for some time now. With the modern approach to living, the Utrecht Municipality feels that they are the perfect partner to put the property to good use.

Around a dozen or so buildings at the main entrance to the Hardebollenstraat were once occupied by prostitutes that formed part of Utrecht’s infamous red light district. Just like in Amsterdam, customers could walk up to red-lit windows and buy sex on the spot.

The ground floors will become available to creative entrepreneurs with room for up to four small catering establishments while the upper levels will continue serving as residential space, claimed The Utrecht Municipality.

There will be an walk-in evening on the 25th of September for interested business people to discuss ideas for the occupancy of the new spaces on the ground floors.
