Utrecht out of the race for Cultural Capital of Europe

Utrecht and Den Hague have been dismissed after the first round of shortlisting putting them out of the race to claim the annual title of ‘European Capital of Culture‘ in 2018.
The bid-book, which contains all of the proposals to transform Utrecht into a culturally rich capital by 2018, was presented to an international jury panel on Friday.
Utrechters were already weary of the city’s cultural superiority in comparison to other greater European nations after a poll revealed that just 58% of the locals felt that Utrecht deserved the title.
Leeuwaarden, Eindhoven and Maastricht remain in the competition to claim the title which has the potential to boost a city’s cultural recognition in Europe and increase tourism in the short term.
