Promotion campaign for medieval Utrecht

Last updated by

Utrecht has to present itself as more of a medieval city. So say multiple museums and tourist organisations.

That’s why they presented an action plan on friday. In medieval times Utrecht was a bigger city then Amsterdam, and played an important role.

“At the Hema in the city center there’s a house next to an alley next to a house and another alley. This is a pattern that goes back to early medieval times, up to the 9th and 10th century,” says René de Kam, historian at the Utrecht municipality. “That’s how old the city really is, and you can feel and taste that. It just has to be pointed out to you.”

The Utrecht archive, museum Catharijnenconvent, Tourism bureau of Utrecht and the Sint Maartensberaad are working on the campaign to promote Utrecht as medieval city.
