Fantastic news for lovers of books in the city as Utrecht gets its first ever annual book market, De Utrechtse Boekenmarkt, which will be set up at the Vredenburg. The first market will take place during the Uitfeest as part of the International Literature Festival Utrecht on 16 September 2018.

After the naming of Utrecht as a UNESCO City of Literature, various groups joined forces to deliver for the city an annual antiquarian book market. The Literature House, Utrecht Marketing and the Association of Independent Publishers are some of the participants. The organisers hope it won’t be a one off and that it will be repeated annually.

The market will take place in the middle of Utrecht on the Vredenburgplein adjoining Hoog Catharijne. There will be about 100 stands.

On 16 September, Tivoli Vredenburg will also host an extensive literary and musical programme for everyone during the afternoon, and throughout the city there will be performances and events from theatre, film and visual arts sectors. The people of Utrecht are lucky that these events will be staged for them and should take every opportunity to attend.
