Event Spotlight: Le Guess Who Festival

One of the biggest independent musical festivals of the country will take place this weekend in Utrecht. Le Guess Who? will bring to the city plenty of marvelous artists of different music styles starting with indie rock and folk and finishing with neo-classics. From 28th of November till the 1st of December different venues in Utrecht including legendary Tivoli, EKKO, ACU political center, RASA and others will became a platform of this show.
Starting in 2007 the festival has growth up and became famous outside the Netherlands. Among the most expected artists of this year programme are US indie-rock and dream pop group Yo La Tengo, former singer of Screaming Trees Mark Lanegan, psychedelic rock band The Black Angels and indie rock duo the Dodos.
Some artist will come to the festival for the first time, others are frequent guests. This can be said about Ty Segall, one of the keys figures of San Francisco’s garage scene, who has already performed on Le Guess Who? twice. This year he came to present his new album “Sleeper”, the entire acoustic experience.
As for news things of this edition of Le Guess Who?, new and quite original venue has been added. One of the city’s oldest churches Janskerk will host tree first days of performances. Organizers said they have chosen the artists for this specific venue very carefully. Among those who are going to perform in the Janskerk psychedelic folk singer Linda Perhacs, bluesman Duke Garwood and neo-classical musician Olafur Arnalds.
The younger brother of Le Guess Who? festival Le Mini Who? will take place this year for the 5th time on Saturday 30th of November. Shops and cafes along the Voorstraat will convert to small venues for local Dutch groups and will be available without any admission fee.
As many international visitor come to visit Le Guess Who? the festival has its own couchsurfing programme. That is a great option for those who don’t want to spend much money on hotels and find as many new friends as possible in Utrecht.
Especially for those who will not be able to wait a year until the next Le Guess Who? festival organizers just announced that the Early Bird tickets for Le Guess Who? May Day are already available. One of the bands to play there will be indie legend Neutral Milk Hotel.
