A Week of “On This Day”

Well almost a week as there was a bit more happening this week, not only in The Netherlands, but also in the UK!

On 20 October in 1740, here in Utrecht, Isabelle de Charrière, known as BELLE VAN ZUYLEN was born. She was a Dutch writer during the Enlightenment. Will we ever see the Belle van Zuylen Toren?  or perhaps you’d just like to read a little about her here:

On 22 October in 1943,  Jan Gerrit Bob Arend Leverman known as Bob Revvel was born in Utrecht. A popular singer he had a long career in Dutch showbiz. He was also known as Robert Long.

On 23 October in 1955, I was born in Leicester. so HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! Jon Wilkins

Also on this day in 1964 Utrecht born 10th dan judoka Anton Geesink won the Open gold medal in the first ever Olympic judo competition in Tokyo; preventing a clean sweep of the gold medals by Japan. A true champion! Click here for more details about a unique Utrechter who broke the mould.
