A week of “On This Day”

Last updated by

As you may or may not know, on our @utrechtcentral Twitter feed we have been producing a feature called “On This Day” featuring famous people from or events about Utrecht that happened on the relevant day. Perhaps if you find something you could let us know.

This week didn’t show us too much happening in Utrecht. Its strange how history works. Some days anniversaries are everywhere, we are showered with them. Then on other days the dates go by in splendid isolation with nothing too memorable. But here is our revisit:

29 September, on this day in 1902, SPORTVERENIGING KAMPONG HOCKEY CLUB were founded. Check out their web site:

30 September, on this day in 1899, poet HENDRIK MARSMAN was born in Utrecht: For 3 of his most famous poems see the link.

2 October, on this day in 1951 TV started in the Netherlands. What did we do to deserve it? Check out this article.

4 October, on this Day in 1956, here in Utrecht, International goalkeeper HANS VAN BREUKELEN was born. Here is an interesting article about his work at the Dutch Football Federation, the KNVB.

And that was the week that was in Utrecht!

Do tell us if you know of any special event. It might be your mothers birthday or your wedding anniversary. You could make history. Tweet @utrechtcentral

Have we missed anyone or anything? Do let us know?

Get involved in the discussion.
